Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Amy Lou Smith is working with Whitney Houston’s team in LA to tell her emotional story in a power ballad.

The tanning salon worker from Tipton was 30 weeks pregnant when she auditioned for the judges last year, and baby Aida was born “magically” just hours before her audition aired last year. Now the pair are “singing through life together”, even though the singer lost out in the final to comedian Viggo Venn in last year’s final.

Over the past eight months, Amy Lou, 35, has forged a friendship with Allan Rich, who wrote Whitney’s mega-hit Run to You as well as songs for Luther Vandross and Sir Rod Stewart, who is writing her life story as a huge power ballad. “We had a meeting two weeks ago while I was on a cruise, and that’s when it all became official and we decided what the first song was going to be about,” Amy Lou tells the Mirror.

“It’s going to be about me, I’m such a real person. I’m still so down to earth, and me, and I want to give you my story. My past hasn’t always been perfect - I’ve had rough, hard times and it’s going to be about that to encourage people that no matter how bad times get, there’s always a rainbow. There’s always positivity in life. Look at me now.”

Amy Lou says visiting Allan’s huge mansion in LA was “surreal”. “He watched the show in America and he saw something in me. I’m going to LA in a couple of months’ time and we’re going to get to a studio and go from there.” Little Aida is a born performer, and is “always singing and dancing” after her daughter kicked while in the womb when mum hit a high note.

“She’s the only person who experienced that audition with me, and now we’re singing through life together,” she says. Amy Lou, who is also mum to Hudson, five, was induced in hospital just hours before her episode aired on ITV. At the time, she told the Mirror: “She had people swarming our room... Nurses who had just watched the audition in the offices.”

Over the past year, Amy has been travelling the world on cruise ships, and celebrated Aida’s first birthday with a princess party, as the current series got underway. “I’ve got a lovely new big house since the show,” Amy Lou says, bursting with pride. “BGT has tgiven me that platform to completely change my life for me and my children,” she continued. “I said I just wanted a better life for my children, and my gosh that dream has completely come true.”

She brings her family on cruises with her when she can, but can reply on the incredible support of her family when she’s travelling to Brazil or the Caribbean, where her cruises sometimes take her. “My partner and my mum are daddy and nanny day care when I’m away, but my priority will always be my babies, it’s motherhood,” she says. “It’s so amazing I can juggle my dreams, and live this fantastic life.”

This year’s Britain’s Got Talent continues on Sunday at 7:40pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
