There were no big winners from the Friday night drawing for the Mega Millions jackpot, meaning Tuesday's drawing will be for the fifth largest jackpot in the game's 16-year history.

That drawing will have a payday of $493 million that will be up for grabs.

The winning numbers for Friday night's drawing were 44, 14, 30, 62, 1 and Mega Ball 1.

If you do happen to beat the odds, here's what you should know:

  • Lottery officials say you should sign your ticket and put it in a safe place, like a safe deposit box.
  • Consult with a financial advisor.
  • Hire an attorney.
  • Remember you have 6 months to come forward, so you can take your time
Earlier this month, an Indiana couple received Mega Millions' third-highest prize, $536 million payday.
The Mega Millions drawing on Friday night has a jackpot of $422 million -- the sixth-largest Mega Millions prize in history.
But winners don't walk away with these full, advertised awards. The Internal Revenue Service automatically withholds 25 percent of such large prizes to pay income taxes. The state of North Carolina also takes bite out by imposing an additional state income tax of 5.499 percent.
