Monty's new life is every dog's dream | Going Home

FORT PIERCE — When Andy arrived at Dogs & Cats Forever, we knew quite a bit about him from the person who surrendered him.

We knew he was a six-month-old Maltese boy, who was far too active for the older couple who had adopted him.

We also knew that he was good with children, he liked other dogs, and was completely house trained.

Monty, at Wasatch National Park in Utah.

We couldn't guess however that his new life would be filled not only with love but also with the kind of adventures that most dogs only dream of.

Steve and Nina Davis of Port St Lucie had heard about an adoption event at the Tradition PetSmart and went to see the dogs from Dogs & Cats.

When they met Andy, they knew that they had found what they were looking for.

“We felt it was meant to be,” said Steve, adding that Andy (now Monty) adjusted quickly to their home.

“He immediately took to my wife,” said Steve, saying that the two have become inseparable.

For his part, Monty is happy doing what most dogs like to do — playing with toys, running in the backyard, and, of course, sitting on someone’s lap.

That wasn't all Monty’s new life had in store for him, however.

In the few months he's been with Steve and Nina, Monty has seen more of the United States than many people have seen a lifetime.

Steve said that Monty loves to get in his carrier, aka “Monte’s Magic Flying Bag,” and has so far visited California, Utah, and Colorado with his new family.

Steve and Nina Davis and Monty visit Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Steve, formerly a big dog owner, said that at first he was apprehensive both about having a smaller dog as well as about having a rescue dog, but Monty, he said, has changed his opinion about both.

“We are so very happy,” said Steve. “He is part of the family.”
