5. The Long Road to "Making Money"
In 1987, Taiwanese sociologist Cheng-shu Kao and his team began what would be a 30-year research project where they interviewed over 800 owners and managers of Taiwanese firms, hoping to "challenge the conventional interpretations of Asian industrialization and to present a new interpretation of the global economy." Join Kao in conversation with University of Washington Professor Emeritus of International Studies and Sociology Gary G. Hamilton.

6. Miko Peled: Injustice
In July of 2004, federal agents raided the homes of five Palestinian American families, arresting the five dads (who became known as the "Holy Land Foundation Five") under the false accusation that they were "supporting terrorism." Human rights activist and author Miko Peled will share his book Injustice: The Story of the Holy Land Foundation Five, which features interviews with the families.

7. A Tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin
Influential Northwest author Ursula K. Le Guin, who passed away in January at the age of 88, wrote poetry, children's books, essays, and short stories. Join Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's Cat Rambo and Town Hall Seattle's Edward Wolcher as they honor the author with memories and tributes. In addition, guests will hear Le Guin reading from one of her most famous stories, "The ones who walk away from Omelas," on a voice recording.

Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce's annual fundraiser will "review all that we have accomplished in the past year and share exciting news about what's to come," with a champagne greeting; silent auction; food and wine from Redhook Brewlab and Aluel Cellars; bites from Big Mario's, Lost Lake, Poquito's, and Rhein Haus; and coffee and sweets from Honor Society Coffee, Cafe Pettirosso, and Nuflours Bakery. Hellbent will release Test Drive #3, a "traditional West Coast IPA bittered with Bravo hops and finished with experimental hop #09326 from the Hopsteiner hop breeding program." (They note that the hop even has its own website.)

26. How Minority Men and Tradeswomen Won Justice on the Jobsite
Join Conor Casey, head of the UW Labor Archives, as he uses historical collections to demonstrate how Seattle workers fought for justice on the job. Assistant Labor Archivist Crystal Rodgers will then introduce and contextualize her pop-up exhibit on Women in the Trades.

Dr. Samuel Harrington, a former gastroenterologist who now concentrates on hospice care, will share his new book, At Peace: Choosing a Good Death After a Long Life.

34. SEACC Film Night in Seattle
The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, who protect the old-growth trees of the Tongass National Forest and the waters of the Inside Passage, will present their latest documentary, Irreparable Harm. The film, set in the small Tlingit community of Angoon on Admiralty Island, exposes the dangers of the Greens Creek mine, which poses a threat to Angoon's sea and wildlife.

35. Kappa IPA and Super Loser Release Party
At this two-for-one release party, Elysian will unveil their Super Loser Pale Ale, a "barrel-aged pale ale with rich flavors of oak, vanilla, and cocoa," and their Kappa IPA, inspired by the river imp in Japanese folklore. Because of kappas' fondness for cucumbers, they'll have samples of "peculiar pickle combinations" from Britt's Pickles, a cucumber carving contest, and some delicious barbecue.

36. Mystic Thursday with Megan Skinner
E. Smith Mercantile's House Mystic Megan Skinner explores the astrological aspects and seasonal themes of a different tarot card each month, with medicinal cocktails to match. 45. Vanishing Point
This "musical comedy-fantasy" is about women who disappeared, either temporarily (whodunit queen Agatha Christie for 11 days, evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson for three weeks) or permanently (Amelia Earhart, RIP).

54. Sound Off! Semi-Finals #3
For the 17th year, the EMP's Sound Off! pits local, under-21 bands against each other in this concert series that rewards the first-place winner with a performance slot at Bumbershoot. The semifinals will feature the winning band from each of the previous weeks' competitions, including Beyond the Woods, Claudine Magbag, EyezOthelo, and Misundvrstood.

55. Crooners & Queens: A Vintage Drag Show

The Shakesbeerience drunken Shakespeare festival ("script in one hand, drink in the other") will perform a very casual staging of Comedy of Errors, about two sets of twins causing all sorts of mix-ups.

This curious cultural fusion is the only event that fuses the celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birthday with the Chinese Lunar New Year. There's lion dancers and bagpipes, a special Presentation of the Haggis, and a recitation of Robert Burns' "Address to the Haggis."
