Mini Globe Race: So far, So good
Published on March 13th, 2025
After their start on February 24 from Antigua, 14 of the 15 19-footers in the 2025-26 Mini Globe Race successfully completed the 1200nm first leg to Panama. The leg was won by Renaud Stitelmann on Capucinette in 8 days, 18 hours, and 40 minutes. Gary Swindail, a late starter after facing shipping delays from Australia, is expected to finish by March 16.
The second leg will be a 6,700 nm course to VUDA MARINA, Fiji via the Marquesas Islands, Tahiti, and Tonga with only 23 days allowed for stopovers. The skippers will face new challenges, from navigating the doldrums to crossing the vast Pacific Ocean.
But first they are bound for the warm waters of the Pacific, overland!. Too small for the Panama canal, two trailers have been modified to carry the 19-footers the 100km across the isthmus one at a time. The clock is running, and start day is now set back one day for March 24, 2025.
