Swiss police have successfully rescued two kidnapped dogs held for a staggering ransom of over £880,000. Zurich law enforcement reported that the two Bolonka dogs were snatched from the home of a 59 year old man in Schlieren, near Zurich, while he was away.
Upon his return, the owner discovered a ransom note demanding a whopping 1 million Swiss francs (£880k) - for the safe return of his pets. The distraught owner, who has remained anonymous, promptly contacted Zurich police, sparking an investigation.
After a week-long search, a 30 year old suspect was apprehended at Zurich Airport, believed to be implicated in the dog-napping plot. In collaboration with Polish police, a second suspect, aged 38, was also detained.
The stolen dogs were found and safely returned to their relieved owner on Friday. The Norwegian 30 year old is currently in custody, while further investigations into the 38 year old are being conducted by Polish authorities.
Both suspects remain unnamed. Bolonkas, a toy breed originating from Russia, are highly prized and can fetch up to several thousand dollars, reports the Mirror US.
The average price for one of these designer dogs typically ranges between £1200 - £2300.
For a lot of folks, their pets are more than just animals - they're family. Psychology might shed some light on the characteristics of those who talk to their dogs as if they were human, and why these individuals might be naturally inclined towards being animal lovers.
