RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Today, April 19, will be the last day of a fee-waived dog adoption week with Richmond SPCA, and to celebrate, the organization will collaborate with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Men’s Basketball team for a meet-and-greet.

On Friday, April 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Richmond SPCA will host a VCU Men’s Basketball Meet and Greet at 2519 Hermitage Road.

Guests will have the chance to meet star players Zeb Jackson, Joe Bamisile and Jason Nelson. According to Richmond SPCA, guests can take selfies with the players and have items such as t-shirts, basketballs and pictures signed.

For a suggested donation of $10, a printed photo will be provided for autographs.

Pets that are leashed and well-behaved are welcomed to attend, according to the Richmond SPCA.

The event will also feature a Proudest Ram Contest, where guests who wear fan attire can enter to win a prize pack with swag from the Richmond SPCA and an opportunity to name a cat or dog at the shelter. Guests can enter the contest by taking a selfie and tagging @richmondspca in the post with the hashtag #VCURichmondSPCA.

Those wishing to enter the contest must be present at the Meet and Greet on April 19 and be following Richmond SPCA on Instagram. The winner will be chosen on Monday, April 22, and will receive a message from Richmond SPCA on Instagram.

According to a spokesperson for Richmond SPCA, the humane center has waived adoption fees for adult dogs to make room for dogs in need to be moved from municipal shelters. Qualified adopters wont have to pay an adoption fee for dogs that are six months or older.

Adoption hours are from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday.
