São Paulo – Dog and cat food company Nutrire, out of Garibaldi, Rio Grande do Sul, reached sales deals in Jordan last February, and shipping is expected to begin before the month of May is over. Jordan is the ninth Arab country to buy Nutrire products – the other eight are Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bahrain, Libya and Oman.

Sales to Jordan are expected to gross BRL 300,000 this year. The first sale will consist of a 40-foot shipping container with some 27 tons of product, 80% of it being cat food.

'We closed the deal at the Global Pet show in Orlando (United States) last February, and we would have begun to ship product if it weren't for the pandemic. Our food safety certificate meets Jordan's requirements, and we are expecting to ship our first batch in May,' Nutrire Import and Export manager Giane Danielli told ANBA over the phone. The sale will consist of a mix of all products available from the company.

Nutrire products are available in over 30 countries, and Arab countries accounted for 17.62% of the company's export revenues in Q1 2020. Egypt and the UAE are the leading Arab importers. The biggest importers of Nutrire products overall are Colombia, Uruguay and Paraguay.

'The company is 19 years old, and we began to export in 2004. We started out by selling to neighboring countries. We began to sell to Arab countries in 2014, and they have fast become a relevant market to us,' said Danielli.

The manager also said exports are going on as usual amid the lockdown. 'We are managing to export normally, apart from the fact that freight costs have gone up. Aside from that, our operations are ongoing,' she said. According to her, pet food is considered as an essential item in most of the countries that Nutrire sells to.

Exports make up 35% of the company's sales, and expansion plans are in place for the Middle East, Africa and Asia, according to Danielli. 'By 2025, we want to be in 50 different countries,' she said.
