MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One Mid-South family is desperate to find their support dog after he was stolen out of a car at a gas station.

The Humes family is now making a plea for Dallas' return. They said the 4-year-old Shih Tzu helps their teenager, who has special needs.

"Dallas is more so soothing for her," said Kim Humes. "I have a special needs daughter."

Kim said Dallas keeps her 19-year-old daughter Brittany calm and happy.

"She enjoys being around Dallas and Dallas loves her," Kim said. "He jumps on her on the couch when she's laying on the couch."

But Kim said Brittany is depressed now and not eating properly.

"She's been withdrawn and she's been lying around in the bed," Kim said.

Dallas was taken from Kim's car Sunday around 7 p.m. when she made a quick stop inside at a Marathon gas station on James Road to pay for gas. She said she did leave her car unlocked.

Sabber Ahmed was working that night when Kim ran back into the store telling him her dog had been stolen.

"I was really shocked," Ahmed said. "I have a pet. I have my own cat. Whenever I see my cat is not doing good. I feel horrible."

The Marathon store has a large number of security of cameras and there are two that point to where Humes was parked Sunday night.

So, it is likely the crook was caught on camera. However, the owner of the store is on vacation in Bangladesh, and Ahmed had not been able to reach him to get the code to get to the video.

He understands the Humes family's loss.

"I'd be crying my family member, I don't know why people steal dogs," Ahmed said.

Kim wants the person who took her dog to return him. The dog can be dropped off at the Marathon store at James and Stage.

"I don't want to press charges or anything," Kim said. "I just want Dallas back with the family."

Kim filed a report with police, and investigators are now waiting to get that surveillance video from the Marathon store.

If you know who has Dallas the dog, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
